Evaluation Faculty of Social Sciences

30.09.2021

The Faculty of Social Sciences first carried out a self-evaluation, followed by a peer evaluation. The research performance of all institutes and key evaluation topics of the whole faculty were evaluated by international peers. Due to the Corona pandemic, the usual site visit had to be replaced by online evaluation talks.

The four-person peer group chaired by Prof. Dr. Christina Boswell (The University of Edinburgh) summarized their assessment as follows: “The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna has undergone substantial change since its last evaluation, including considerable expansion, and an impressive rise in research quality as evidenced by grant income and publications. There has been good progress towards internationalizing both the Faculty and some of the teaching provision, and supporting interdisciplinary collaborations. The Panel commends the generally smooth way in which these changes have been managed and supported. It also congratulates the Faculty on its internationally excellent research across many of its areas, which are well captured in the individual department reports prepared prior to this overall evaluation.”

The report also includes a number of observations and recommendations for further improvement. The evaluation results were discussed and measures for improvement were included in the implementation agreement between the Rectorate and the Faculty. The implementation monitoring is part of the target agreement process.
