Evaluation of the Faculty of Chemistry completed

06.05.2025

The evaluation of the Faculty of Chemistry was concluded with implementation discussions and agreements between the Rectorate and the centre management.

Particular attention was paid to the three focus topics agreed in advance: (1) research profile and research strategy, (2) doctoral programme and internationalisation, (3) study programmes and teaching with a focus on the admission procedure and the revision of the Bachelor's curriculum in Chemistry.

As part of the evaluation, the faculty initially carried out a self-evaluation. In January 2023, a peer evaluation of the Bachelor's curriculum in Chemistry took place, the results of which were taken up by the Curricular Working Group. In September 2023, there was then an on-site visit by international peers chaired by Professor Ilan Marek (Technion).

Overall, the reviewers assessed the Faculty of Chemistry's performance as follows ‘

The committee acknowledge that the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is a prominent and globally recognized research and teaching institution. Nevertheless, the committee believe that the Faculty has the potential for further improvement […]. While acknowledging the high quality of the Faculty of Chemistry, these recommendations are designed to help the Faculty realize its full potential.’

The Rectorate discussed the evaluation results in detail with the faculty management. As part of the 2025 target agreement, the implementation was finally discussed and the implementation agreement was signed. The agreed measures will be monitored as part of the future target agreements. The revised Bachelor's curriculum in Chemistry came into force in the winter semester 2024/25.
